About

About Linda Unti

After teaching high school for six years, followed by a long corporate career in communications and public affairs, my life as an artist finally began to evolve. In fact, my path to art was paved by a wakeup call: breast cancer.

Perhaps for the first time ever, I gave myself permission to observe, focus on, and enjoy the life I was given. I began to look at colors and details, highlights and shadows, lines and layers, in distinct and creative ways. In essence, I now look at everything with a renewed perspective. I am genuinely touched by the beauty that each day offers - beauty which is abundant here in the California wine country where I live.

In 2002, I began the pursuit of fulfilling my long-time interest in art by focusing on the exploration of watercolor. Since then I've become a serious student of the medium, having studied with Jane Hofstetter, John Salminen, Judy Greenberg, Phyllis Rapp, Mike Bailey and Tom Lynch. I've practiced, and am still practicing, spending a part of each day experimenting with color, texture and light. Watercolor Artists of Sonoma County, California Watercolor Artists and National Watercolor Association are professional organizations that are also sources of inspiration.

My subject matter has evolved from still life, to cityscapes, to figurals. Most recently, a study of gestures and relationships of old Italian men going about their daily lives is broadening my horizons and enriching my life.

Although my work is for sale, I paint for myself - what truly interests me - with as much richness of color, emotion, and artistry as I can master. When others appreciate my work and acquire my paintings or giclees, I feel pleased and honored because it somehow gives validation to my decision to step onto this fulfilling, life-changing path. I am endlessly rewarded by being able to capture and express in art what I see and love.

My paintings are on display at Unti Winery and Rued Winery, both located in Dry Creek Valley, Healdsburg, California. I will have a 3-month show at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club beginning 7 February and at Rochioli Winery from 20 September to 31 October.
